Wuhan Open

The Wuhan Open is a WTA 1000 tennis tournament held in Wuhan on hard courts, played in October. It is a women's event, so only one tour is in town. The main singles draw holds 56 players.

Wuhan sits in the middle of the Asian swing and is played in humid early-autumn conditions that make long matches punishing. By this stage of the year the players have been competing for nine months, and recovery between rounds is the quiet factor deciding results.

A record like that is unusual at this level, where conditions and fields change from one season to the next. The 2024 final went to three sets against Zheng Qinwen in front of a home crowd, which is as close as anyone has come to ending the run.
